Are you interested in 8-bit computers? Facebook offered me an interesting project that was shared in a group of enthusiasts whose hobby is focused on 8-bits. Linear regulators in TO3 packages are used in 8-bit computers. Michal found a project for a switched-mode buck regulator in the dimensions of the TO3 package.
The entire project of the switched-mode regulator in the TO3 form factor looks very interesting. Personally, I miss larger capacities there, but this will probably be addressed on the computer’s own board, or the interference from the switched-mode regulator won’t be significant enough to negatively affect the computer itself.
The converter is based on the TPS56339DDCR chip, which has a wide input voltage range from 4.5 to 24V. The output voltage can be in the range from 0.8 to 16 V – adjustable using two resistors. The converter is a buck type with a maximum output current of 3A. The question is whether the design with this converter is suited for this current.
