Shintaro Kono had two MK3S 3D printers at home. He could have bought an upgrade kit and upgraded to CoreOne, but he (probably) said NO! I’ll assemble them together and have one large, functional printer. And that’s exactly what happened.
Shintaro combined two MK3S printers and now has double the print area.
The MKx printers are popular not only because of their ease of repair but also due to the possibility of upgrading to a higher version.

Shintaro also upgraded both 3D printers, but in a slightly different way. He had to modify the frame to ensure that the printer remained stable at this size, and as demonstrated in the video of printing 3D Benchy, it works.
The print volume thus increased from 250x210x210 to approximately 500x210x210 mm.
From the image, it is clear that he used two separate build plates, which makes sense since you typically can’t find one that large in an online shop. He also had to keep two independent power supplies.
If everything goes well (especially testing), the author promised to write up the procedure and publish the BOM, firmware, and other materials so that other owners of these older printers can upgrade… a bit differently than everyone else 🙂
