Don’t spend your time of choosing of DVB-T2 tuner – use Raspberry Pi TV HAT (uHAT)

DVB-T2 is a new standard of terrestrial broadcasting and the covering of DVB-T2 is still higher and higher.
RaspberryPi released a new HAT called TV HAT (uHAT) which supports DVB-T2 standard.

The connection between TV HAT and RaspberryPi is really easy and you just put on the 40 pins header of RPi 2, 3B, 3B plus, Zero, Zero W. The HAT has different size so there is a new name – uHAT.

The chip which is assembled on the board is Sony CXD2880 which supports H.265/HEVC.

Update: RaspberryPi doesn’t have HW acceleration of H.265 codec, so the RPi can be used like server of stream and the decoding of video is provided by other devices (laptop, mobile phone,…) or the RPi can decode the stream by SW. You can achieve up to 1080p@30Hz with fine-tuned OS.

So is not neccessary to use USB tuner and hope, if it will be working or not. This TV HAT is supported in OS and you can use TVheadend and LibreELEC (Kodi).

If the HAT will be popular among a lot of people, the support should be increased on other single-board computers (BananaPi, OrangePi, Odroid) and their OS.

The tutorial how to use it is on the official website of Raspberry Pi.

The price of TV HAT is 20 £, and you can buy it e.g. on The PiHut.

The another tutorial is available on the website of distributor The PiHut.
